About morality and ethics

Morality and Ethics
The Wiccan Rede

As we learned during the “Crash Course World Peace”, our moral and ethical behavior is a Direct Result of our leading Worldview.

We have even defined: Ethics as:
The translation of our leading worldview into concrete:

  • Rules of behaviour
  • Norms and values
  • Laws

If our worldview is dominated by Religion and/or Materialism, then peace is just a period between 2 successive wars
If our worldview is based on Holism, then (world)peace it it’s normal state of being.

Although this basic rule “Do whatever you like, as long as you do not hurt others” sounds easy, it will require a lot of practice and training to apply it correctly.

It is even much harder to apply correctly than the (Jesus) rule “Do not do unto others what you do not want done to yourself“, which is awarded to Jesus Christ (assuming that he really existed)

Although I fully agree that the world be a much better place than it is now if we would just apply the Jesus rule.
But “good” is not as good as great.
What is missing from the Jesus rule is that it does not take into account that we are all individuals.

For example:
Suppose that when I wake up, the first thing I do is play a Slayer song really loud!
Believe it or not, but there would be people that would give me a thumbs-up.
However, most would ask me to turn that goddamn noise down.

Now if I just followed the Jesus rule, I would have done nothing wrong, since I like Slayer songs.
Following the Wiccan rule however, I first have to know who will be hearing that song and figure out how they would respond to my action.
This requires advanced social skills like how to read body language and even how to “read” someone’s aura or mind.

It also means that it is not my action itself which is good or bad, but how it is perceived by others.

And that is what it takes to a whole new level since it is up to the other person(s) who decide if my action is either good or bad.
Yet, at the same time, it is up to the others to be rational and not easily offended or quickly irritated. These skills have to be mastered as well.

But that is not where it ends!
The ‘None” part of the rule includes all living creatures, not just humans. It even includes all our planetary ecosystems.
If we would take that literally and black and white, we would not even be able to make a walk in the woods for example.
Every step in the woods would kill fungi, ants, worms and probably a lot more, so this “None” is to be regarded in a practical way.

In Utolantis we will stimulate, as part of our education , how to master these advanced skills and how to actually apply it.

Natural Law: Working Definition

People like Mark Passio,  or Larken Rose are some of the persons that advocate the concepts of Natural law which is also very much like “True” Anarchism.

Origins of the concept of Natural Law goes back to ancient Greek where Plato and Aristotle already spoke about this ethical concept where morality in its purest form is not dependent of any government or culture across time and location.
To get a deeper understanding on what it is and what it is not, I recommend you to check out one or more of the provided links on this page.
